Turkey’s leading defense technology company ASELSAN has added another high-tech defense system to its inventory, designed to protect aerial platforms from heat-seeking missiles. The Directed Infrared Countermeasure (DIRCM) system, YILDIRIM-100, has successfully completed live-fire testing and marks a critical step toward becoming the new shield of modern battlefields.
Laser-Based Defense Against Guided Missiles
Developed to neutralize threats targeting both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, YILDIRIM-100 is particularly effective against infrared-guided missiles. The system automatically detects and tracks incoming threats and uses high-powered, multi-band laser beams to blind the missile’s seeker head, causing it to veer off course. This advanced technology goes beyond traditional flare systems, offering a next-generation layer of protection for aircraft.
360-Degree Coverage and Multi-Threat Management
Operating in a fully automated mode, the system provides 360-degree global coverage and can engage multiple threats simultaneously. Featuring a dual-turret configuration, rapid target acquisition sensors, and high-energy laser modules, YILDIRIM-100 integrates seamlessly with ultraviolet and infrared-based missile warning systems to deliver fast and effective responses to incoming missiles.
Lightweight, Durable, and Compatible
Developed in line with NATO standards, YILDIRIM-100 stands out with its low power consumption, compact design, and minimal maintenance requirements. Its flexible architecture allows for easy integration into both next-generation and existing air platforms.
Special Protection for KAAN with YILDIRIM-300
ASELSAN is also working on a specialized version of the system—YILDIRIM-300—tailored for Turkey’s fifth-generation national fighter jet, KAAN. Once operational, KAAN will become one of only a few fighter jets worldwide equipped with DIRCM capabilities, joining the ranks of advanced platforms like the American F-35 and Russian Su-57.
