On August 21, 2025, a major milestone in the modernization of the Albanian Armed Forces was announced. According to Iveco Defence Vehicles, Albania will soon receive its first LMV2 armored vehicles under a program financed by the European Union through the European Peace Facility and implemented by Italy’s Agency for Development Cooperation (AID). This initiative underscores both the increasing militarization of the Balkans and the strengthening of Italy-Albania defense ties, marking a significant step for regional security. The deliveries highlight the EU’s role in consolidating NATO’s southern flank and enhancing Albania’s military mobility.
Produced by the Italian company Iveco Defence Vehicles, the LMV2 is the latest evolution of the widely deployed Light Multirole Vehicle. It provides enhanced ballistic and mine protection, improved payload capacity, and modern digital mission management systems. Highly versatile, the LMV2 can be configured for reconnaissance, troop transport, command, or specialized missions, making it adaptable to a wide range of operational needs. Its adoption by over 15 countries demonstrates its global reliability and battlefield effectiveness.
The LMV family has played a vital role in multiple international deployments, from Afghanistan to Africa, where its mobility and protection proved crucial in asymmetric warfare.
