Drone attacks carried out by Ukraine have sparked serious concerns over airspace security in Moscow and surrounding areas. Operations at several airports were temporarily suspended, while dozens of flights in St. Petersburg were delayed.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated that Russian air defense systems successfully shot down a drone approaching the capital, prompting heightened security measures across the city.
The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) reported that, due to security concerns, airport operations in Izhvesk, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Penza, Tambov, and Ulyanovsk—located east and southeast of Moscow—were temporarily halted.
Authorities at St. Petersburg’s airport also confirmed that many flights were postponed amid the escalating risk.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, a total of 32 drones were neutralized within just three hours across various central regions of the country.
