Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has taken a major step in strengthening its presence in the African market by receiving a Type Acceptance Certificate from the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) for its E-Jets E2 family. This certification clears the way for the E2 family to operate in South African airspace and marks an important milestone in Embraer’s strategic growth plans on the continent.
Following this development, Airlink, one of South Africa’s leading regional airlines, signed a lease agreement to add 10 E195-E2 aircraft to its fleet. The new aircraft are expected to boost the airline’s regional route capacity, improving both passenger comfort and operational efficiency.
The E195-E2, the largest member of Embraer’s second-generation E-Jet family, stands out with its low fuel consumption, advanced aerodynamic design, and quiet cabin. Its lower operating costs and environmentally friendly performance provide airlines with a significant advantage, especially during periods of fuel price volatility.
This move aligns with Embraer’s strategy to expand its market share in Africa and Airlink’s goal of strengthening its competitiveness in regional air transport. The first deliveries are expected to begin next year, making Airlink the first airline to bring the E2 family into operational service in South Africa.
