At MSPO 2025 in Kielce, Hyundai WIA showcased its new 105mm light self-propelled howitzer, designed for rapid-deployment forces and airborne operations. The system highlights South Korea’s strategy to provide cost-effective, air-transportable artillery solutions for both domestic and international customers.
The 105mm howitzer weighs 7 tons and is based on the K351 and K152 light tactical vehicle chassis, offering high mobility and compact design. With automated gun laying, GPS/INS navigation, a ±270° traverse, and –5° to +65° elevation, the system can engage targets up to 18 km using rocket-assisted rounds. Operable by just two personnel, it supports rapid “shoot-and-scoot” tactics to minimize exposure to counter-battery fire.
The artillery battery concept presented at MSPO includes three vehicles: the gun platform, a fire command vehicle, and an ammunition resupply vehicle. The command vehicle hosts four operators and integrates a battalion-level tactical system, while the resupply vehicle carries up to 40 rounds. Together, they form a modular, air-transportable artillery battery suitable for expeditionary operations.
Optimized for light infantry brigades, rapid reaction forces, and airborne units, the 105mm system provides both direct and indirect fire support with rates of up to 10 rounds per minute. Its mobility, firepower, and interoperability make it a compelling option for NATO allies and regional partners, complementing heavier artillery systems already in service.
The unveiling at MSPO 2025 underscores Hyundai WIA’s ambition to expand into the European defense market and reflects the broader shift toward agile, expeditionary artillery solutions capable of operating in high-intensity and hybrid warfare environments.
