Blighter, Unveils Long-Range B422LR Border Surveillance Radar

UK-based Blighter has introduced its longest-range border surveillance radar, the B422LR, capable of detecting a human target at 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) or a crawling target at 6.4 kilometers (4 miles). The extended range enables earlier intruder detection, reducing operational costs for border security forces.

The B422LR operates on just 4 watts of power, equivalent to a mobile phone or LED bulb, and can monitor an area of 707 square kilometers (274 square miles). It uses frequency-modulated continuous wave transmission and micro-Doppler target detection, requiring minimal transmitter power and bandwidth compared to traditional radar systems. The system supports 360-degree electronic scanning without mechanical rotation, utilizing low-power, solid-state transmitters. It can also be powered by solar panels and operates without forced air cooling, making it suitable for remote border deployments.

Blighter’s co-founder and chief technology officer, Mark Radford, stated, “The B422LR’s ability to detect individuals at 15 kilometers in all weather and complex terrains, using only 4 watts, strengthens our position in the global border surveillance market.”

The radar integrates with BlighterNexus software, enabling seamless connection to command and control systems for real-time situational awareness. Its AI-assisted software automates radar setup, configuration, and adjustments, optimizing performance in varying weather conditions while lowering training and operational costs.

Blighter’s radar systems are free from US ITAR and EU dual-use export control regulations. “Our ITAR-free status and licensing for both commercial and military use provide a strategic edge, simplifying procurement and deployment for customers,” Radford noted.
