Israel has announced that missiles were launched from Iran shortly after a ceasefire was declared. The attack came immediately after U.S. President Donald Trump declared a ceasefire on the 12th day of hostilities. Air raid sirens were reportedly activated in Tel Aviv, Galilee, and surrounding areas. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the missile attack constituted a clear violation of the ceasefire and confirmed that he had ordered a new military operation in response.
The ceasefire, which had raised hopes of de-escalation in the Middle East, was disrupted within just a few hours. President Trump had posted on social media that a ceasefire between Iran and Israel was now in effect. The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office also released a written statement affirming its agreement to the ceasefire terms.
However, in a later statement, the Israeli military claimed that Iran had violated the ceasefire with a fresh missile attack. Due to the strikes, northern regions of Israel were placed on high alert. Sirens were activated particularly in the Haifa area, and the public was urged to remain in shelters. Security sources reported that at least one ballistic missile launched from Iran was intercepted by Israeli air defense systems.
Defense Minister Katz said, “Despite the ceasefire, the attacks from Iran are unacceptable. I have ordered our military to respond.”
Although both sides had previously expressed commitment to the ceasefire, this latest development has once again highlighted the fragility of the peace process in the region. As the international community calls for restraint, attention now turns to renewed diplomatic efforts between Washington, Tel Aviv, and Tehran.
