Belgium Chooses AI-Powered BLAZE Interceptor to Strengthen Counter-Drone Capabilities

The Belgian Ministry of Defence has selected Origin Robotics’ AI-driven BLAZE interceptor as part of a €50 million emergency counter-drone package to tackle rising unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) threats. The system aims to enhance airspace security by detecting, tracking, and neutralizing hostile drones.

Recent weeks have seen increased drone incursions over airports, military sites, and critical infrastructure, forcing Belgium to seek support from Germany and the United Kingdom. The short-term procurement ensures immediate resilience while the Ministry develops a long-term anti-drone strategy.

Agris Kipurs, CEO of Origin Robotics, said, “Belgium’s decision to adopt BLAZE reinforces our leadership in autonomous defense technologies. This system provides NATO allies with a rapid and effective solution against fast-moving aerial threats such as drones and loitering munitions.”

Launched in May 2025, BLAZE features radar detection, AI-powered computer vision, and operator-approved autonomy. Its portable design and rapid deployability make it suitable for intensive operational use. Equipped with airburst fragmentation intercepts and safety wave-off commands, the system strengthens Belgium’s immediate counter-drone readiness and expands Origin Robotics’ presence in Europe.
