Gibka 3M-47 (3M47 Ghibka) Naval Turret Air Defense System

The Gibka 3M-47, also known as 3M47 Ghibka, 9K310, 9M310, 9M313, Igla-1, Igla-M, SA-16, SA-N-10 Gimlet, is a short-range, shipborne surface-to-air missile (SAM) system designed to provide close-in protection for naval vessels against anti-ship missiles, aircraft, and helicopters. Developed by the Altair Naval Radio Electronics Scientific Research Institute and manufactured by Ratep Joint Stock Company, Gibka is a remotely operated turret system that integrates modern missile technology with shipborne radar networks.

Description and Role

The 3M-47 Ghibka turret mount is specifically intended for ships with a displacement of 200 tons and above, providing rapid-response defense in high-threat environments. The system is compatible with 9M39 (SA-18 Igla) and 9M342 (SA-24 Grinch/Igla-S) missiles, offering versatility against diverse airborne threats. The turret receives targeting information from onboard radars such as Positiv, Furke, or Fregat, while final aiming is conducted via a TV-optical control module.

Operation

  • Guidance: Missiles employ infrared (IR) homing with optical tracking and thermal-noise detection, providing resilience against both natural and artificial jamming.
  • Control: The turret is remotely operated, with visual detection ranges of 12–15 km.
  • Engagement: The system can fire single shots or salvos, targeting one aircraft at a time.

Composition

Gibka 3M-47 consists of two main elements:

  1. Shipborne Turret Mount:
    • Four to eight missiles per mount (depending on version)
    • Support-turning device for rapid orientation
    • Optical-electronic tracking device
  2. Control Module:
    • Automated operator workstation
    • Electronic control equipment for turret and launch mechanisms
    • Power supply system

Missile Types:

  • 9M39 (SA-18 Igla): IR guidance, effective probability of kill 30–48% against unprotected fighters, reduced to 24–30% against IRCM-jammed targets.
  • 9M342 (SA-24 Grinch / Igla-S): Larger warhead with impact/proximity fuze; engagement range extended to 6 km, capable of destroying targets near-miss.

Deployment

The Gibka 3M-47 system is currently installed on:

  • Project 21630 “Buyan” class corvettes
  • Project 21631 “Buyan-M” class missile corvettes
  • Planned for future Mistral-type LHDs in the Russian Navy.
