Tensions are once again rising in the Middle East. Iranian officials have warned that they are fully prepared for a potential conflict with the United States and emphasized that any war would not be short-lived. Speaking to CNN, Iranian sources stated, “War could last two years. We are prepared. The U.S. will pay the price directly,” drawing international attention.
A Clear Message to the U.S.: The Price Will Be High
Senior figures close to Iran’s defense and security institutions said their patience is wearing thin regarding the United States’ recent military posture and presence in the region. Iran has declared that any direct attacks on its nuclear program will be seen as a casus belli—a direct reason for war.
“If America crosses Iran’s red lines, the consequences won’t be limited to the region—it will have global ramifications. If war breaks out, it won’t last a week; it may stretch on for two years. And we are ready,” said one official, underscoring Iran’s determination.
An Implicit Threat via the Strait of Hormuz
Iran, which has frequently threatened to close the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, may once again consider this option. This narrow waterway sees the transit of around 20 million barrels of oil per day and plays a critical role in global energy supply. Even a temporary closure of the strait could cause a sharp spike in global oil prices.
Experts Warn: A Regional War Could Spark a Global Crisis
Strategic analysts warn that a direct conflict between Iran and the U.S. would affect not only the two nations involved but also countries such as Iraq, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and even Europe. Severe increases in energy prices, disruptions in global logistics, and new waves of migration are all potential ripple effects.
