Maxar Technologies Unveils AI-Powered “Sentry”: Global Threats Will Be Detected in Advance

Satellite imaging and space technology company Maxar Technologies has introduced “Sentry,” a new global monitoring solution designed to identify potential threats before they materialize.

This AI-powered system integrates satellite data with decades of geographic information to provide “predictive intelligence” for strategic operations. Maxar announced that Sentry consists of two main products: “Site Sentry,” which monitors critical land and sea locations such as airports, ports, and urban centers, and “Maritime Sentry,” which simultaneously oversees thousands of square kilometers of ocean area to track vessel activities.

Maxar CEO Dan Smoot stated that increasing customer demands were the driving force behind Sentry’s development. “For our customers, it is no longer sufficient to continuously monitor just a few regions or specific sites,” he said.

Sentry operates based on three key components. First, it automatically coordinates multiple satellite networks to monitor hundreds of locations worldwide simultaneously. Second, it merges the collected data into a time-synchronized dataset, enabling fast and scalable analysis. Finally, AI and machine learning models compare this data against Maxar’s 250-petabyte archive to flag unusual activities such as sudden troop movements, unexpected satellite launches, or disruptions at critical infrastructure.

Maxar describes Sentry as a “mini intelligence agency,” emphasizing that it offers unparalleled decision superiority when it matters most.
