MSPO 2025: HSW Showcases Heavy Infantry Fighting Vehicle Concept for Poland’s Armed Forces

At MSPO 2025, Polish Armaments Group (PGZ) and its subsidiary Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW) introduced a concept for a new tracked heavy infantry fighting vehicle (HIFV). Developed to protect and transport troops in high-intensity conflict zones, the vehicle combines advanced mobility, firepower, and protection, placing Poland’s defense industry in direct competition with leading European and South Korean models.

The HIFV is based on a robust tracked chassis, optimized for rough terrain and tactical adaptability. It provides ballistic and mine protection that meets NATO STANAG standards, enabling safe operations against artillery, IEDs, and anti-armor weapons. With space for a crew of three and six to eight dismounts, the vehicle can deliver a full infantry squad into contested battlefields.

Armament centers on the ZSSW-30 remote turret, armed with a 30–40 mm automatic cannon, a coaxial machine gun, and Spike ATGM launchers. This setup allows it to counter a wide range of threats, from enemy infantry and fortified positions to main battle tanks. Designed for future upgrades, the platform can integrate Active Protection Systems (APS), counter-drone defenses, and laser warning receivers, significantly boosting survivability against loitering munitions and precision strikes.

The vehicle integrates seamlessly with Poland’s command-and-control systems, ensuring NATO interoperability. Its modular design allows future enhancements in armament and protection. Intended to support both offensive and defensive operations, it offers sustained mobility for mechanized brigades in scenarios ranging from conventional wars to hybrid conflicts.

The unveiling comes as Poland accelerates its land forces modernization in response to the Ukraine war and rising threats on NATO’s eastern front. While Warsaw has already procured K2 Black Panther tanks, K9 howitzers, and Abrams MBTs, the domestic IFV project demonstrates a push for industrial independence. If adopted, the new HIFV would complement Poland’s Borsuk IFV program, providing a heavier, more survivable option for frontline units and strengthening Poland’s position as both a regional defense leader and a global exporter.
