Otokar Delivers First Batch of COBRA II Armored Vehicles to Romania

Otokar delivers the first batch of COBRA II 4×4 armored vehicles to Romania under Turkey’s largest single armored ground vehicle export agreement.

The contract, signed last year between Otokar and the Romanian Ministry of Defense, covers a total of 1,059 COBRA II vehicles. Production continues at Otokar’s facilities in Sakarya, Turkey.

The initial vehicles produced in Turkey have arrived in Romania. The first 278 COBRA II vehicles are being manufactured at Otokar’s Sakarya plant, with subsystems sourced from Romanian suppliers to be integrated locally in Romania.

This agreement includes plans for the first overseas production of COBRA II vehicles. Otokar recently signed an agreement with Romanian defense firm Automecanica S.A. to establish a joint venture aimed at local manufacturing and the development of defense capabilities within Romania.

Vehicle deliveries to the Romanian Ministry of Defense are scheduled to commence in the final quarter of 2025.

Several specialized COBRA II variants are being developed to meet specific Romanian operational needs. The agreement encompasses ten different variants, including personnel carriers, reconnaissance vehicles, vehicles equipped with remote-controlled weapon systems, anti-tank and anti-tank command vehicles, 120 mm and 81 mm mortar carriers, engineering vehicles, CBRN reconnaissance vehicles, and ambulances.

Romania becomes the ninth European nation to operate Otokar’s defense vehicles.
