Peru Chooses Israel’s PULS Rocket System for Joint Production and Military Modernization

Peru’s Ministry of Defense, through its state-owned defense firm FAME SAC, has awarded Israeli company Elbit Systems a high-value contract to supply the PULS multiple launch rocket system (MLRS). The agreement includes not only the delivery of the system but also deep industrial cooperation through technology transfer and joint production within Peru.

The $60 million framework deal is designed to enhance Peru’s long-range artillery, fire-control, and C4I systems, ensuring full compatibility with the national command infrastructure, WIRACOCHA. The tender process, held in three phases, evaluated candidates based on manufacturing capacity, prior experience, certification, profitability, and technology-sharing credentials. Elbit Systems achieved the top score of 100 points, surpassing Chinese firm NORINCO and Turkish defense company Roketsan.

The procurement includes three PULS launcher vehicles, observation and reconnaissance platforms, command post units, maintenance workshops, a weather station, and 105 missiles—some with ranges up to 290 kilometers.

Developed by Israel Military Industries and modernized by Elbit Systems, PULS stands out with its multi-caliber capability, precision strike accuracy, and rapid deployment features. It can launch a wide array of munitions, including loitering drones like SkyStriker. The system is already in service with the Israeli Defense Forces and has been selected by several NATO and allied nations. With this selection, Peru becomes the first Latin American country to adopt and locally co-produce the PULS system.
