Poland Secures $780M Javelin Missile Deal to Strengthen NATO’s Eastern Flank

Poland is set to acquire over 2,500 U.S.-made FGM-148F Javelin anti-tank missiles and 253 Lightweight Command Launch Units (LWCLUs) under a $780 million Foreign Military Sale, reinforcing NATO’s eastern defenses amid ongoing tensions with Russia and Belarus. Approved by the U.S. State Department, the deal emphasizes Washington’s commitment to bolstering allied capabilities in Eastern Europe.

The Javelin FGM-148F features tandem HEAT and multi-purpose warheads capable of defeating modern armored vehicles, light fortifications, and bunkers. Its “fire-and-forget” system allows troops to relocate immediately after launch. The LWCLU offers a 30% weight reduction, upgraded sensors, and a high-resolution display for faster target acquisition and improved situational awareness.

This acquisition enhances Poland’s operational interoperability with NATO forces and deploys Javelins across Territorial Defense Forces, mechanized brigades, and integrated NATO battle groups in the Baltic region. The deal also supports U.S. production lines, reflecting the rising global demand for precision-guided anti-armor systems and strengthening NATO’s forward deterrence architecture.
