The Swedish Armed Forces have placed a new order for 94 additional Patria 6×6 armored vehicles—known locally as the Pansarterrängbil 300—further strengthening the country’s contribution to the Finnish-led Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) program.
According to a statement released by the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) on December 1, the latest order covers troop transport, command and control, and medical evacuation configurations. Valued at approximately SEK 1.5 billion (about $163 million), the vehicles will be produced by Patria with significant involvement from Sweden’s domestic defense industry.
Mats Warstedt, Vice President for Patria’s Nordic Market Area, described the purchase as “a strong signal of confidence in the CAVS program,” highlighting the increased interoperability and supply security among partner nations.
Sweden initially committed to acquiring 321 vehicles in 2024. With this new batch, the total number rises to 415 units, scheduled for delivery between 2025 and 2030.
The CAVS framework brings together Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Denmark, Germany, Norway, and the United Kingdom in a multinational effort to harmonize armored vehicle capabilities, strengthen industrial cooperation, and ensure resilient supply chains. Additional countries may join pending the approval of existing members.
Patria, serving as the prime contractor, leads the development of the 6×6 platform. More than 250 vehicles have already been delivered under the CAVS umbrella, and total orders have surpassed 1,000 units. The program’s emphasis on domestic production in each participant nation is intended to maintain critical manufacturing capacity during crises and reinforce collective security of supply.
The Pansarterrängbil 300 offers modularity, high mobility, and multi-role flexibility, aligning seamlessly with NATO operational standards. Its growing presence in Sweden reflects broader regional defense planning shaped by evolving security dynamics in Northern and Eastern Europe.
