Türkiye Expands Its Air Strike Reach with Roketsan’s New 300 ER Ballistic Missile Capable of 500 km Range

During the IDEF 2025 defense expo held in Istanbul from July 22 to 27, Turkish defense giant Roketsan introduced its latest development in long-range strike systems: the 300 ER air-launched ballistic missile. Building upon its previous achievements with the aeroballistic UAV-122 and UAV-230 systems, Roketsan now aims to offer a more powerful, efficient, and cost-effective solution for air-delivered strategic strikes, both for the Turkish Armed Forces and potential international users.

The 300 ER draws on the heritage of earlier systems — the UAV-122, based on the TRG-122, and the UAV-230, derived from the TRG-230 — both of which successfully completed test flights. While the UAV-230 reached distances of over 150 kilometers, the new 300 ER pushes this capability significantly further, surpassing 500 kilometers depending on release altitude and speed. When launched from an aerial platform, the missile follows a high-arching ballistic trajectory that may reach near-hypersonic velocities, offering rapid engagement of deeply located, high-value targets.

Measuring about five meters in length and weighing around 900 kilograms, the missile has a diameter of 370 mm. While its name might suggest a connection to the TRG-300 series, its size and build point instead to a configuration designed to carry a warhead in excess of 150 kilograms. This makes the 300 ER an ideal candidate for eliminating strategic assets such as command bunkers, radar installations, hangars, and logistical hubs — all while staying outside the range of enemy air defense systems.

Regarding platform integration, the Akıncı UCAV — with its 2,000-pound payload-rated hardpoints — is technically capable of deploying the 300 ER, albeit likely carrying just one missile due to size and weight. In contrast, an F-16 fighter jet could carry two missiles, one on each wing, increasing the missile’s tactical flexibility across manned and unmanned platforms.

Notably, the 300 ER also offers a more affordable alternative to conventional air-launched cruise missiles, despite reaching similar strike distances. This affordability may make it an attractive choice for nations looking to achieve strategic strike capabilities without the complexity and cost of cruise missile infrastructure. The missile thus represents Türkiye’s strategic aim to diversify its strike options while reducing dependency on foreign systems.

With the unveiling of the 300 ER, Roketsan reinforces its central role in Türkiye’s pursuit of defense autonomy. Offering extended reach, multi-platform versatility, and logistical efficiency, the system may see wide adoption among Turkish forces and allied regional militaries seeking reliable long-range firepower. More than a new product, the 300 ER stands as a symbol of Türkiye’s growing capacity to deliver high-impact, self-reliant military technologies for the future battlefield.
