The Ukrainian Air Force has reportedly put at least one MiG-29 Fulcrum fighter jet, previously owned by Azerbaijan, into active service.
Images circulating on social media show a single-seat MiG-29 painted in Azerbaijan’s blue-gray camouflage flying under Ukrainian control. The aircraft is equipped with R-27 and R-73 air-to-air missiles, indicating it is operational.
According to reports, three Azerbaijani MiG-29 jets were sent to Lviv State Aircraft Repair Plant in 2022 for maintenance and upgrades. Despite severe damage to the facility during Russian airstrikes, at least one aircraft was reportedly salvaged and integrated into Ukraine’s inventory.
It remains unclear whether these jets were officially transferred to Ukraine or seized under wartime conditions. There is also no confirmation yet whether the other Azerbaijani aircraft have been repainted and flown under Ukrainian markings.
Azerbaijan’s MiG-29 fleet consists of second-hand jets acquired from Ukraine in 2007, which have also participated in joint exercises with Turkey over the years.
