The AgustaWestland AW101, now produced by Leonardo S.p.A., is a medium-lift, multi-role helicopter developed jointly by the United Kingdom and Italy. Operated under the name “Merlin” in countries like the UK, Denmark, Norway, and Portugal, the AW101 is widely recognized for its advanced avionics, robust performance, and multi-mission flexibility. The Merlin HM1 variant, for example, features a crew capacity of 3 to 4 and can accommodate 26 to 45 personnel. With a length of 19.53 meters and a rotor diameter of 18.59 meters, it is powered by three Rolls-Royce Turbomeca RTM322-01 turboshaft engines, enabling a maximum takeoff weight of 14,600 kg.
