Germany Activates Arrow 3 Missile Defense System for the First Time Outside Israel

Germany is set to place the Israeli-built Arrow 3 long-range ballistic missile defense system into full operational service this week, marking a historic first deployment of the system beyond Israel’s borders.

A New Strategic Layer

According to Germany’s Ministry of Defense, the activation of Arrow 3 significantly strengthens the country’s shield against ballistic missile threats. Officials highlight that the system’s ability to detect and intercept long-range missiles at high altitude provides a crucial early-warning and engagement capability within Germany’s expanding air and missile defense architecture.

High-Altitude, Exo-Atmospheric Interception

Arrow 3 stands out for its capacity to intercept ballistic missiles outside the Earth’s atmosphere. Equipped with advanced radar and precision guidance technology, the system can locate incoming threats during their early phases and neutralize them before they reach European airspace.

Israeli officials note that Arrow 3 offers an effective solution against threats emerging from multiple directions and geographies, underlining its value for allied defense networks.

First International Operational Deployment

The system’s entry into duty in Germany marks the first time Arrow 3 has been fielded operationally in another country. This milestone not only enhances Germany’s defensive posture but also paves the way for the system’s broader international role in strategic missile defense.
